I think most of us would agree that mindset is one of the keys to successful weight loss and wellness. But, we don’t talk much the actual actions we can take each day to improve our mindset, or start to build a habit of positive and empowering thinking.

The first step is to practice mindful awareness of the thoughts we are thinking and how we are feeling. Journaling and meditation can help us to shed light on these thoughts. Then, we need identify the thoughts that aren’t serving us and try to modify those thoughts. Perhaps I’ll explore this how I approach this modification process in a future post.

But, what I want to talk about now is how to start with more generally and gently infusing our day and minds with positive and empowering thoughts that will help us with our increasing our belief in ourselves and capacity for success, and minimize self-doubt and negative self-talk.

There are several ways I do this, and I thought I would share with them with you.

  • Card Decks

This is one of my favorite ways for a little shot of inspiration. I keep card decks in my bedroom on the dresser, my desk at work, and also my home office. Each day I will randomly pull a card, and try to fully reflect on the message the card offers. Here some great card decks that I like:

Crazy Sexy Love Notes by Kris Carr
Power Thought Cards by Louise Hay
The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein

  • Podcasts

Listening to inspiring podcasts is a great way for me to build my power thought repertoire, and I love using commute and treadmill time as opportunity to learn and listen. A few favs include:

The Brendon Show
The Life Coach School
MarieTV —  Marie Forleo (is video and podcast)
Losing 100lbs

  • Visualization or Affirmation Audios

I sometimes also listen to these tracks at night, or on the commute.
Visualizations for Weight Loss by Jon Gabriel
A Meditation to Help with Weight Loss

  • Apps

There are several affirmation apps that you might find useful. The ThinkUp app is a cool one (and it’s free) because you can record your own voice saying statements, or choose from several that are already in the app. They have a category specifically for weight loss.

  • Searching Instagram

I admit, I will sometimes search the Instagram for #weightlossquotes , #inspirationalquotes , or #powerthoughts. Check out it for yourself, and I am sure you can think of other hashtags that would pull up some useful thoughts.

  • Positive Passwords

I have to give credit to my husband for this one. What do we have to type each day, sometimes multiple times a day? Our passwords! I have changed my work password to a statement that I like to reinforce. I would share it with you, but then I’d have to change my password.

Well, I hope this has been a helpful list. What do you do to cultivate a weight wellness mindset?
