A part of weight wellness is releasing weight that we no longer need. This release is more than just excess stored energy in its physical form. It is the releasing of the extra protection, the surplus of fear, and the excess of scarcity thinking.

In order for our bodies and mind to know that it is ok to release the weight, it needs to know that we are safe without it. We can’t just force it to happen. We need to allow it to happen.

If you are like me, this can be hard. I’d always prefer to have an action, a plan, something to do next. Doing feels like working toward success. It is the American Way, as it were. Work hard, be successful. There is a place for this. But, there also needs to be a place for letting go.  Super hard, if you ask me.

How does one “do” letting go? It is non-action, there is no doing. It is being present for the undoing. Observing what we are holding on to that is no longer serving us. Giving over our controlling tendencies where they are not needed.

Do we hide under the invisibility cloak of weight? I think we can shed it by practicing self-love and trust. We can allow ourselves to let go of the protective barrier by reminding ourselves that we are whole and beautiful today, and in every form in which we may exist.

If we are to let go of the grip of fear, we need to cultivate our courage. It is a practice of noticing and moving forward anyway. Allowing it be there but letting go of its hold on us and our actions. Expanding the courage might, just perhaps, release the fear from showing up in our bodies. Letting it go allows things to move and flow, and shift.

If we are to let go of scarcity thinking, we need to practice gratitude and thinking from a place of abundance. We have everything we need already, there is nothing we are lacking. I believe when we can start to believe this, that we can then hold on to only what we need, and bodies won’t feel the need to grasp for more than necessary.

Letting go is a kindness. It is a softening. It is an understanding that we already are everything we need to be. When we truly know that in our bodies, minds and spirits, then we allow a balancing to happen naturally and find the sweet spot between doing and allowing.

For me it is a work in progress, but progress is good. How have you let go?
